What enterprise AI needs to answer business questions reliably

Business answers need more than an excerpt: connect sources, entities, dates, scope, operating records and permissions, with evidence reviewers can inspect.

Evidence and context — PostSig operating context

An excerpt is not the business context

To answer a business question reliably, an assistant needs the relevant sources and the relationships that make those sources applicable. It must know which entity, period and scope the question concerns, how the records changed and what the user is permitted to access. The answer should expose its evidence and limits.

A passage can be accurately retrieved yet operationally incomplete. A fee in a master agreement may have been amended for one product. An invoice may use a different supplier name. A user may have access to a summary but not every underlying record. These are context questions, not simply search-quality questions.

A useful context path

  1. 01Sources: the records behind the question.
  2. 02Entities: who and what the records refer to.
  3. 03Dates and scope: when and where each provision applies.
  4. 04Operating records: the activity being reviewed.
  5. 05Permissions and evidence: what can be shown, and why.

Test an invoice question

Illustrative question: “Does this invoice match our current terms?” A single invoice excerpt cannot establish the answer. Review the agreement family, relevant amendment, applicable fee schedule, product mapping and billed period. If a schedule is missing, the output should say what cannot be established rather than filling the gap.

The evidence packet should identify the source of each material statement. A reviewer needs to distinguish a directly supported fact from an interpretation or unresolved dependency. This makes the answer useful for follow-up, not merely plausible to read.

Invoice excerpt

Check: Billed service, quantity, dates and amount

Potential mismatch: Treated as proof of the governing obligation.

Connected context

Check: Agreement history, mapped product, effective period and evidence

Potential mismatch: Missing dependencies are concealed by a confident answer.

Access is not action authority

Approved context access does not grant an assistant permission to approve an invoice, send a notice or execute a transaction. Keep those actions within separately authorized workflows with clear ownership. The source-backed answer can support a decision without becoming the decision-maker.

PostSig MCP provides approved access for assistants, tools and customer-built workflows. It is not a third application equivalent to CPM or IRI. LineageAI supplies the shared foundation for entities, relationships, effective dates, scope and evidence.

Evaluate the boundary in practice

Start with one question and include a deliberately incomplete record set. Ask what the assistant can establish, which sources it used and what remains unresolved. Check that access follows the user’s permissions and that the output does not imply action authority.

Repeat the test after a relevant record changes. A useful foundation should support reviewing the changed context and its evidence. The operating goal is an inspectable basis for human and workflow decisions, not an assurance that every generated answer is correct.
